Actually lets start at close to six weeks ago. Back on January 6th, I ran my first 5KM run of the year. At that time, it had been a few month since my last run and on January 6th I had run 5KM in just under 42 minutes. About a week later on January 12th, I posted my quarterly goals for 2013. By March 31st, I will run a sub 35 minute 5KM.
Two weeks ago, I went out for a 5KM run and my time was 37 minutes. A huge drop in time. It was obvious that the interval training in conjunction with the cross training was really paying off.
Tonight, I went out for the same 5KM as two weeks ago. Tonight my time was 35 minutes. I was so impressed. My pace was fast and steady on the way out. On the way back I was more choppy and thankful for the long red light at a busy intersection. When I was within my last 50 meters crossing over the bridge, I knew I had been pushing myself because that lovely feeling you get when the lactic acid builds up in you stomach was there. I thought for sure I was going to finish and then lose it. I didn’t but it was the closest I’ve ever come.
To clarify, I have not reached my goal just yet. My goal is a sub 35 minute 5KM. Less than 35 minutes. This feeling of being so close is great. I know that within the next two weeks I will achieve my sub 35 minute 5KM.
Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.
